Paper or Plastic at the store - try brining your own bags! Start a green trend
The “paper or plastic” question continues to swirl. The plastic bag
people say they’re saving trees by not using paper bags. The paper bag
people say they’re keeping plastic bags from getting into the ocean and
harming the fish.
Just buy your own bags and bring them with you. The typical shoper only walks out with 2-3 bags, and that is because the paper/plastic bags are weak and aren’t built to hold enough products. So buy 2 study bags and use on your convience stops.
some things you should NOT recycle
- Pizza boxes. The oil from pizza can contaminate the cardboard making it impossible to process them into clean paper.
- Napkins and paper towels. It’s not the paper goods themselves that present a problem, but the fact that they’re typically used to wipe up food, cleaning products, and other “hazardous waste.”
- Sticky notes. Their size, color, and the adhesive strip make them a better bet for the trash bin.
- Plastic caps. Curbside programs won’t recycle them.
- Wet paper. Paper fibers that have been exposed to water are shorter and therefore less valuable to paper mills, making it unprofitable to collect and recycle.
Stop your newspaper
Just wanted to put a question out to get some feedback…..at what age are still reading the newspaper? And what is the reason for reading with all the media channels available?
the Red, White, Blue, and now the GREEN
November 5th, a day of reflection on history. History made about 24 hours ago here in the midwest electing Barack Obama to the 44th President of the United States of America. Now that we have a new Commander in Chief, we have a new leader to direct us within the realm of energy independence. But this platform shouldn’t be entirely politically initiated. This needs to start now. This needs to start with us. Gov’t is only going to enforce regulations. Its up to the to the people that claim Red, White, and Blue to save this planet. So many resources are taken for granted. And not enough businesses follow social responsibility.
I enjoy seeing the IBM commercials where they realize how much money is spent on energy costs then you see talking comical animals. Not how I exactly envision going green, but hey, it made me laugh.
President Elect Obama has said in his energy platform that he wants to add 5 million ‘green’ jobs, and I’m assuming that some of these jobs will be created from the development of the 1 million electric cars he wants to get on the road. Which is a great idea. I fully support and will endorse electric cars when they get up to 150 miles in travel per charge. Right now 40 miles per charge isn’t bad, but the increase in distance-to-charge will make these cars more appealing to energy conscience individuals.
These are all great ideas, right? They are when put into motion, so lets do our part and endorse a green living!
O’Fallon Journal to be subscription only starting Nov 5th
I’m not sure if it’s coincidence or what, but my local Journal is now only delivering on subscriptions only! This is great! This means people will only get the paper because they want it, not because the Journal wants to pump out subscriptions to increase volume for ad revenue. Even if this service didn’t force the Journal to stop delivering free papers, I’m happy that the Journal decided to make the effort to only print what is needed and to be more environmentally friendly.
Who needs a print paper anyway. I understand generations are different and the baby boomers and generation Xers probably read the paper. But now-a-days there is so many channels to get news; computer, TV, phones, radio. Which are a easier on the environment and don’t kill unnecessary trees. In fact, the Journal has an RSS feed so I don’t even have to step away from my computer to get the content from the paper, its sent to my RSS feed and I can browse through the headlines and open the articles I find interesting.

Would anyone be interested??
So when you opt out of a newspaper and phonebook, sometimes they will still send it anyway. I will check with local authorities but i am pretty sure at that point you have littered on my property. If i started a campaign to pass this, do you guys think this would be a good idea. I think it is horrible that they sometimes still send it anyway. This should be a littering fine of 250.00.
take your rainwater and save it
Now by no means am I endorsing this product nor does this have ANYTHING to do with saving paper, BUT its a perfect way to save some of mother natures excess acid rain, for a not so rainy day - yeah bad joke. (http://www.plastic-mart.com/class.php?item=3166. And after all - going Green is synonymous with reducing waste.
Basically its a barrel that you stick at the end of a gutter spout and the rain water that collects in the gutter pours into the barrel. There is a spicket that you can attach to a hose and thanks to Sir Issac Newton and his Law of Gravity you can walk away and not pay for this water.
Hello Everyone!
This is the stopMyLocalPaper.org blog, it was designed to create a cyber-place that people can learn to live a greener lifestyle. Our hope is that this information spreads, and spreads quickly. I take my dog for a walk everyday, sometimes 2x - and seeing newspapers that have been sitting there on a driveway, sidewalk, and sometimes a stray paper in the street. Well, this isn’t such a service to stop eye-sores on my daily walk, but a service to stop newspaper companies from creating wasteful resources. I hardly read the newspaper, because if I want the news, I’ll check it online, or watch a local channel for an update.
Please feel free to post an opinion.
